- Joohn Lemay served with the Minute Men near Hampton, VA, and was in Hampton on 4 July, 1776 when the Declaration of Independence was signed. Lemay enlisted in the Continental Army in the 14th VA Regiment under Capt. John Winston. In 1780 he received his discharge in Lancaster, PA. During this time his regiment marched with Washington's Army. He was present at Valley Forge during the winter of 1778. He is listed in the Abstracts of Revolutionary War Pension Files. Granville Co. NC Will Book 2, p. 44, 238 Aug, 9, 1878, an Inventory of the Estate of Thomas and Susanna Lemay, deceased, was ordered into Court on oath by Lewis Benneet the Administrator of the Estates. Ordered that the Sheriff sell such part of the property of Charles Lemay deceased left by Susanna Lemay at her death as Lewis Lemay has a right to receive by the will of the deceased under the right of distribution. Ordered that John Pomphrey, Chesley Daniel and Josiah Daniel divide the Estate of Charles Lemay yet undivided between Thomas Lemay deceased and Samuel Lemay.
