- Mrs. Lura Effie Barton, nee Brooks, was born Sept. 5, 1857 and passed from this life to her heavenly home July 10, 1938, age 80 years, 10 months and 5 days. She was converted and joined the Methodist Church at the age of 12 years; for 68 years she lived a most beautiful Christian life. On Nov., 25 1880, she was married to Mr. T. C. ¹arton; this union continued for 58 years. Surviving are her husband and the following children: Rev. T. N. Barton of Brady, Miss Pearl Barton, Mrs. Ida Atkinson, W. D. Barton, and Mrs. Lou E. Jackson. Brothers Charles Brooks, R. B. Brooks, E. J. Brooks and one sister, Mrs. O. M. Kellogg. the active pallbearers were Warren Redford, Laurence Smith, Jess Humphries, Marshall Richardson, Elbert Purser and V. C. Spencer. Honorary pallbearers: Warren Bryson, Dr. G. D. Ross, Dr. W. D. Fowler, Dr.Gordon Bryson, Judge J. E. Hickman, R. W. Atkinson, J. N. Matthews, M. J. Harley, Will white, A. W. Stanford, G. W. Adams, D. D. Munro,John Rowlett, Rector Allen, Stafford Salyer, H. L. Gill, O. M. Kellogg, Joe Myers, J. W. McLaren, G. G. White, Walter Witcher, Theo Spencer, O. O. Perry, Arthur Hefner, Bryon Dennis, Lon McFarland, Buddie Brooks, Lester Williams, Tom Casbeer, Al Kaufman. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church and interment made in the Liberty Hil Cemetery July 11 at 10 a.m. Rev. R. Gammenthaler, assister, by Rev. W. A. Dunn, Rev. H. M. Ratliff, and Ref. G. W. McGuire officiating.
