Found a listing in IL marriage records for John LETTER and Sarah Ann BATES, Jackson Co. 14 Aug, 1888. Must send for cert. Thee first mention I have found for John Letter,, which shows that he was alive in 1890: Letter, John jr, lab. BS Co - W. Mill, bds 105 East A. BS is Belleville Steele. 105 East A is his parentts' residence.
