My executors to sell all that was not given my wife and pay my debts and that left to my eight children: Milley Hester, Elizabeth Cumin, Joseph and Gideon Crews, Abbey Daniel, James Crews, Littlebeury Crews, And Jemima Cumin [Currin} and all property left my wife sold at her death and divided to all my chhildren. Exrs: my sons Gideon and James Crews. {note: another daughter, Mary E. Crews, was not mentioned, perhaps because seh had moved with her husband out of state.} Gideon took the oath of allegiance of NCC in 1778. The gun he used in the Revolutionary War is in the museum at Guildford Battle Ground near Greensboro, NC (Notebook of JP Breedlove Sr, nno in possession of JP Breedlove Jr) This information is also found in RFW-44: "Gideond Crews was a patriot and signed Oath of Allegiance to State of North Carolina and against George III 30 May, 1778. Received pay for army services as a soldier. His mussket has been kept in the museum at Guilford Battleground, NC There is a posting on rootsweb.com, from Dan Fawcett of Springfield, VA, claiiming to have found the locations of the graves of Gideon Crews and his wife, Jemima Wicker Crrews: Folks, I just recently came back from a trip to Granville, and with the help of some cousins in Oxford, I believe that we lfound the gravesite of Gideon Sr.and Jemima. It is located in a thicket surrounded by a farm field and just south of a pond, about 400 yds west of Mountain Rd (Rt 1515) and about 200 yds North of Slaughter Pen Rd. (rt 1518) The thicket is only about 1/10 of an acre ain total, but requires a bit of "bushwacking" to enter. It was clearly left "unfarmed" on purpose. Our exploration uncovered about a dozen or so gravestones, most of which were small. None of the stones have markings that can be read. One son, Gideon Jr., is buried about 2 mi away, just east of another pond and in the woods just past a clearing, about 1/4 mi northeasst of the intersection of Obrien & Chewing Rds. There is a small gated dirt roapath that begns at Chewing and leads past the gravesite.......... Both these are on private property -- so ask before you visit.
